7 years ago, I felt trapped in a painful relationship. At first, I wouldn't even admit it to myself. How can a smart and educated woman like myself fall for something like that? And for reasons I could not understand, I felt more and more isolated from my family and friends. My hopes of experiencing intimacy and safety in my relationship evaporated. I struggled with low self-esteem, panic attacks, insomnia, and a persistent feeling of being in danger.

With some introspective work, I began to make conscious changes to care for myself and found joy in being alive. Since healing is a continuous process, having a long-term strategy that works feels like a hidden gem that enables me to live the life I want.
